Brooklyn Center Police are calling the death of a 14-month-old girl in a driveway a "tragic accident." Police released the name of the driver who accidentally ran over the toddler Tuesday.
Police say Xeng Lor, 31, was moving his vehicle from the garage area where he was grilling and did not realize his 14-month-old daughter was still near the vehicle.
"There was three young kids and he needed to back up the car and when he did he saw that two of the other kids were out of the way," said Brooklyn Center police Cmdr. Brian Peters. "He didn't realize the other child was still behind the vehicle."
The accident happened Monday afternoon in the 5400 block of Colfax Avenue. The Minnesota State Patrol is conducting an accident reconstruction and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Crime Lab also processed the scene. The name of the child has not been released.
Police say the driver is cooperating and was tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard procedure. They don't believe either was a factor.
